Industrial Power Supply Units (PSUs)

Industrial Power Supply Units (PSUs) need to be safe and efficient. In addition, they are also obliged to fulfil legislative requirements like power factor correction (PFC). Typical applications include DIN rail power supplies or high efficiency, robust power supplies. Depending on power requirements and form factor needs, there are many different topologies that can be used. A commonly used one is full bridge topology, AC powered, with power factor correction (PFC).

Design considerations

Require space reductions, high power performance in smaller packages, low EMI sensitivity and low susceptibility to noise and surges

For high efficiency purposes, PSU designs use secondary side synchronous rectification and ORing for back-up power supply.

Replacing secondary side  rectification diodes with MOSFETs provides a significant boost to the total efficiency.
