Design considerations
- USB Power Delivery (PD) over Type-C connectors supports flexible power profiles up to 100 W and up to 240 W with Extended Power Range (EPR). This requires power control switches capable of handling voltages of 20 V or higher with robust reliability.
- Low on-resistance (RDS(on)) is essential to minimize conduction losses, reduce thermal stress and ensure compliance with USB minimum-voltage specifications
- Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) poses significant challenges, as both internal power supply dynamics and external automotive conditions can introduce severe disturbances such as ESD, surge events and electrical transients.
