GPS tracker

While our smartphones often offer mapping and GPS tracking options, sometimes a dedicated GPS tracker is the better option - especially for hikers and others in remote locations where accurate location data even when under a heavy canopy is essential. Whether handheld or wearable, these devices incorporate an increasing number of features - including including navigation, way-finding, real-time route tracking, and topographical maps - and can often track speed, distance, and altitude, recording vertical gain and loss along the way. As with all mobile devices very efficient power consumption and space-saving packaging are vital.

Design considerations

  • Need to balance extremely long battery lifetimes with always on functionality - energy efficiency extremely important
  • Low power dissipation is crucial in such small wearable devices
  • Need for very small packages or wafer-level chip scale footprints
  • For more power efficient wired charging, the inline Schottky diode can be replaced by two back-to-back MOSFETs

Minimize space, maximize efficiency

The smartphone has become crucial to our daily lives, connecting us to the ‘cloud’ as well as a host of peripherals - from smartwatches and earbuds to smart speakers and mixed reality headsets. As a long-term partner to the mobile phone industry, our proven portfolio helps your designs meet even the most challenging footprint constraints.
