High-performance compute (HPC)

As vehicles become increasingly software-defined, automotive high-performance computing (HPC) platforms are consolidating functions previously distributed across multiple electronic control units (ECUs). Processing data from domain and zonal controllers, HPC systems enable centralized decision-making for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), automated driving, connectivity, infotainment and vehicle management functions. As computing performance, data volumes and system complexity continue to increase, reliable signal integrity, high-speed communication and efficient power delivery are essential for ensuring safe and responsive vehicle operation.

Design considerations

  • Requires scalable and flexible product families depending on HPC's functional aggregation and communication interfaces
  • Discrete and integrated protection, power conversion and management solutions in multiple product families
  • ESD protection approved and tested to the latest standards for high speed communication network amongst the HPCs and ZCUs
  • Small signal discrete and logic devices add additional safety features that are independent from the main processor
  • Fast uni- and bidirectional translators for communication between the different MCUs and external domain controllers
  • Reverse battery protection can be realised with Schottky diodes, directly controlled P-MOSFETs or N-MOSFETs in combination with an Ideal diode controller with an internal charge pump circuit.
